Learn While You Burn
The Line is a one hour fitness program making up the first half of the Jook Lum Tong
Leong class.  During this part of the class, you will experience a traditional Martial Arts
warmup pushing yourself to the limit.  The line is an extreemely challenging aerobics
workout which emphasizes 65 distinct martial arts techniques each repeated 50 times
held in a hoarse or Ma Bouy stance.  After the line is complete, the remaining time of the
hour will be spent working related flexibility and strength routines to increase mobility
and coordination.

This part of the program is a pre-requisite to the Jook Lum Tong Leong Karate class in
that it lays down the fundamental techniques required to effectively train in the karate
part of the class.
The Challenge Cycle

  1. Squat (focus on your leg stance)
  2. Chamber (power source)
  3. Strike (technique)
  4. Breath (stabilize your body)
  5. Look Ahead (focus your mind)
  6. Stay in step with the instructor
  7. Be a source of inspiration to the
    person next to me.

Success is mastering each facet of the
above while working your body as hard
as you can.
Part I - The Line
Part II - Jook Lum Tong Leong Karate
The Jook Lum Tong Leong part of the class work includes detailed instruction in the
development of all aspects of this martial art that will over time create, refine, and hone
spectacular physical skills.  A brief outline of the various categories of work include:
  • Open Hand Forms: Best analogy is a gymnast floor routine where there is series of
defined movements that represent a fight without a physical opponent.
  • Weapons Forms: Same purpose as open hand forms but executed with one of the
following weapons; bow staff, sun-jie-gun, single broad sword, double broad sword,
belt sword, spear, kama, whip chain.
  • Fighting Techniques: Defined multiple step attack / block sequences executed against
another student.  This environment begins to introduce the student to one on one
engagement under a very controlled environment.
  • Sparring: Over time, you will be introduced to point sparring which is the current
competition form.  In point sparring you focus on quick execution and light touch.
Strong and precise techniques are required to succeed in this discipline.
  • Self Defense: Over time, self defense training will be introduced to each student.  This
usually does not occur until sometime after the first couple of years due to the nature
of the material.  The application of self-defense material can be devastating.  (Good
for you - bad for your opponent.)
Public competitions are considered a normal part of the training.  We offer students the opportunity
to compete in public / open tournament many times throughout the year.  These forums provide an
opportunity to refine your material to the highest level as well see your skills in action in relation to
other schools and styles.  We train winners.  Our history proves that out.
